Koskamo

Identify the license.

Retrieve an SPDX identifier and its source. Identification alone does not establish permission to use code.

Match the identifier and name

Search MIT License within spdx-licenses. The recorded result identifies MIT and links the corresponding SPDX page. Similar names can describe different licenses, so check the identifier as well as the display name.

Inspect the source metadata

Keep the reported SPDX list version, deprecation status, and reference links. Follow the original license page for its text. Metadata describes the listed license; it does not establish which license applies to a particular repository.

Preserve the scope of the answer

An agent can cite the record to identify a license. It should not turn a registry match into permission to reuse code or a conclusion about license compatibility. If the passages do not support the question, report that limitation.

Try the lookup

Run this in a POSIX shell with curl. Public reads need no account or API key.

Lookup command
curl --fail-with-body 'https://koskamo.com/api/v1/retrieve' -H 'Content-Type: application/json' --data-raw '{"query":"MIT License","dataset":"spdx-licenses","top_k":3}'

Read the returned evidence

Selected fields from the first passage returned on 2026-10-08. This is a recorded example; current versions and ranking may change. A response can contain other matches, so check the title and text before using a passage.

Keep the citation with the answer

Keep documentId and documentVersion together with the dataset slug, document title, and original source URL. The dataset version describes the collection; it is not the document version. Preserve this evidence through summarization and show it with the final answer.

An empty passages array means there is no returned evidence to cite. An HTTP error is a failed lookup, not an empty result. On 429, respect Retry-After; on other failures, report the failure instead of inventing a source.

Frequently asked questions

Does finding MIT establish the license of my project?
No. This lookup identifies a registry entry. Check the actual project's license notices and source files separately.
Is a deprecated identifier the same as a deleted record?
No. Inspect the deprecation field and the original SPDX record; a returned reference is not a recommendation to use that identifier.
Can I retrieve this through MCP?
Yes. Call koskamo_retrieve with dataset spdx-licenses and the license name or identifier as query. Public reads need no key.
