Reference Source Import Alerts MCP

A remote, keyless, read-only MCP server that allows AI assistants to query FDA import alert red lists, checking if specific firms are subject to detention without physical examination at the US border. It provides verified records with source URLs and verbatim quotes from FDA pages.

Endpoint and access

No sign-in to connect and list tools. Individual tools may still need a vendor account, credentials, or permissions; check the documented prerequisites.

Server-provided instructions

Untrusted server output shown for inspection. It is not Koskamo guidance and is excluded from knowledge search.

Check whether a foreign manufacturer, shipper or grower is on an FDA import alert red list, meaning every shipment from them is detained without physical examination (DWPE) at the US border and the importer must prove compliance to release it. 14,000+ firm listings across 30+ import alerts covering seafood, produce, unapproved prescription drugs and APIs, dietary supplements, cosmetics, animal drugs, pet treats, medical devices and contact lenses, from FDA's own red-list pages. Every value comes back with the FDA page it was read from and a verbatim quote, so it can be checked. Start with resolve_firm for a supplier name, list_import_alerts to see which alerts are covered. IMPORTANT: this register carries 30+ of the 150+ alerts on FDA's own index, not all of them, and is a snapshot as of last_verified — a firm not found here is a firm not found on THESE alerts on THAT date, which is not the same as a firm in good standing. Say so when you answer.

resolve_firm — Find a firm on an FDA import alert red list
Advertised by the server during the last successful anonymous check.
Advertised read-only

Is this supplier red-listed by FDA? Search the import alert red lists by firm name or part of one (e.g. "Tonga Tiur", "Qingdao", "pharmacy"), optionally narrowed to a country. Returns each listing with the import alert number and name, the country, the date FDA published the listing, and the FDA page and verbatim quote it was read from. A firm can appear more than once — one record per alert it is listed on.

get_listing — Get one red-list entry in full
Advertised by the server during the last successful anonymous check.
Advertised read-only

Everything FDA prints for one red-list entry: the firm name and address, the import alert and its title, the product code and description, FDA's stated reason (the Notes block — the actual finding, e.g. "Decomposition" or a confirmed laboratory result), and the date published, with the FDA page and a verbatim quote. Record IDs come from resolve_firm or list_alert_firms.

Which FDA import alerts are in here, and how many firms are on each? Returns the alert number, FDA's own title for it, the number of firms red-listed, how many countries they are in, and the newest listing date. list_recent_listings — List firms added to a red list since a date
Advertised by the server during the last successful anonymous check.
Advertised read-only

Who has FDA red-listed recently? Returns the listings whose published date is on or after a date you give, newest first, optionally for one alert. Use this to watch a category — new detentions on the seafood alerts, say — rather than to look a firm up. The date FDA prints is when the FIRM was added to the alert.

verify_quote — Check a claimed import-alert fact against the register
Advertised by the server during the last successful anonymous check.
Advertised read-only

Is this right? Check a claim about a red-list entry — the alert number a firm is on, its country, the date it was published, FDA's stated reason — against the register instead of trusting it. Says whether the claim matches a stored value, appears only in the verbatim FDA quote, or differs (and then what FDA's page says instead).

Connect from your client

Each snippet registers the same endpoint; pick the client you use.

This server is operated by the named third party. Listing and endpoint checks are not an endorsement or a security audit. Review the operator's permissions, terms, and data handling before connecting. How listings are checked and corrected.

Claude Code

Run this once in a terminal. It registers the remote server. Use --scope project to write .mcp.json for the repo.
Claude Code configuration
claude mcp add --transport http reference-source-import-alerts-mcp https://referencesource.org/mcp/import-alerts

Codex

Run this once. Codex stores MCP servers in ~/.codex/config.toml (or .codex/config.toml in a trusted project).
Codex configuration
codex mcp add reference-source-import-alerts-mcp --url https://referencesource.org/mcp/import-alerts

Cursor

Merge this server into .cursor/mcp.json in your project, then enable reference-source-import-alerts-mcp in your MCP settings.
Cursor configuration

  "mcpServers": {
    "reference-source-import-alerts-mcp": {
      "url": "https://referencesource.org/mcp/import-alerts"

Cline

Merge this into cline_mcp_settings.json (Cline → MCP Servers → Configure).

VS Code

Merge this server into .vscode/mcp.json. Use MCP: List Servers to start reference-source-import-alerts-mcp and inspect its tools.

Gemini CLI

Run this once. It writes .gemini/settings.json in the current project; pass --scope user for ~/.gemini/settings.json.
Gemini CLI configuration
gemini mcp add --transport http reference-source-import-alerts-mcp https://referencesource.org/mcp/import-alerts

Claude Desktop

Open Claude Settings > Connectors > Add custom connector, enter this server URL and enable it for the conversation. This is a manual remote-connector handoff, not a desktop JSON configuration.

Windsurf

Merge this into ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json, then refresh MCP in Cascade. Windsurf remote servers use serverUrl, not url.
