PE or Not? MCP

It provides ownership details, PE backers, confidence levels, and source citations for labels such as 'pe_backed', 'corporate_owned', or 'no_known_pe_ties'.

PE or Not? (peornot.org) says whether a local service business or a consumer brand is private-equity (PE) backed, names the owner or backers, and gives a source for every label. Business data covers dentists, eye doctors, vets, dermatology and GI practices; brand data covers 250+ consumer brands (outdoor and sporting goods, clothing and shoes, pets, baby, beauty and personal care, home and kitchen). Businesses of any kind can be Verified Not PE. Published by TechCrowds, LLC. Use lookup_business for one named business ("is my dentist PE-backed?") or brand ("is Orvis owned by private equity?"), find_businesses for an area ("dentists in Plano with no PE ties") or for brands (industry "brand": "pet food brands with no PE ties"), get_group for an owner group, a practice brand, or a company or PE firm behind consumer brands ("who owns Heartland Dental?", "what brands does Authentic Brands Group own?"). How to answer: - Use the "say" text from the result as written, or stay very close to it, and cite the sources (headline + link) and the data date. - Say "PE-backed" or "affiliated with a PE-backed group" and name the firm. Never say a dental or eye care practice is "owned by" a PE firm: the PE-backed company usually manages it and a dentist or doctor stays the legal owner. - Say "no known PE ties", never "independent" (only practices that certify their ownership are verified). It means none found, not none exist. - label "unconfirmed" = say "Not confirmed" and give the source; don't name the group as owner. - Never say a practice is worse (care, prices) because of who owns it. - Vision Source members and Pearle Vision franchise stores are independently owned: never label them by the network. - If status is possible_matches or multiple_matches, ask the user for the street address before stating a label. - For vets, a business that isn't listed hasn't been checked: say that, rather than "no PE ties". Some find_businesses listings come from clinicians' individual NPI records and aren't confirmed open: mention it when relevant. - Coverage: dentists, eye care, dermatology and GI nationwide (every NPI-registered practice); vets cover the tracked groups' locations only. Mention the coverage note when it matters. - If a result has a "verified" object, the business is Verified Not PE: its owner certified it has no private-equity, corporate, lender or health-system owner, and PE or Not? checked the statement against public records. Say so, say it's a paid listing, and give its page_url. find_businesses lists an area's Verified Not PE businesses under "verified"; mention them when the user asks for businesses with no PE ties. - For a brand, a label describes who owns the brand, not the quality of its products. A brand not on the list is unknown, not "no PE ties". - If the user says a result is wrong, give them the correction_url.

lookup_business — Is this business PE-backed?
Advertised by the server during the last successful anonymous check.
Advertised read-only

Checks whether one specific dentist, eye doctor, vet, dermatology or GI practice is private-equity backed, from its name plus city and state or ZIP. A street address or phone number makes the match surer. Also answers for a consumer brand by name or website (e.g. "Orvis" or "orvis.com"), with its owner, backers and sources. Returns a status (match, multiple_matches, possible_matches, no_match, need_location), a "say" sentence in the site's label wording, and matches with label, owner group, backers, PE stake and deal model, confidence, sources (headline, link, date), coverage and a correction link.

find_businesses — Find businesses in an area by ownership
Advertised by the server during the last successful anonymous check.
Advertised read-only

List dentists, eye care practices, vets, dermatology or GI practices in a ZIP code, city or state, optionally filtered by ownership label. With industry "brand", list consumer brands instead (no location needed), filtered by label and by words in the brand, owner, backer or category (name), e.g. pet food brands with no known PE ties. Covers requests like "dentists in Plano, TX with no PE ties" (label=no_known_pe_ties) or "PE-backed eye doctors in 75024" (label=pe_backed,lender_owned). Labels: pe_backed, lender_owned (PE-backed, now lender-controlled), corporate_owned (not PE, owned by a company), health_system_owned, group_practice (owned by its dentists/doctors, no outside investor), vc_backed, no_known_pe_ties, unconfirmed, not_labeled; aliases pe and no_pe. Returns counts by label for the area, total, a page of results (limit up to 100, then next_offset) with each one's label wording and source, and the coverage note. Dental and eye care cover every NPI-registered practice; vet, derm and GI list only the tracked groups' locations. Some listings come from clinicians' individual NPI records and aren't confirmed open.

get_group — Who owns or backs this group?
Advertised by the server during the last successful anonymous check.
Advertised read-only

Get an owner group's ownership details: label and consumer wording, owner or PE backers and since when, PE stake (majority or minority), how it holds practices (buyout, partnership, joint venture, de novo), parent and brands, every source with its headline and date, and known locations by state. Covers questions like "who owns Heartland Dental?" or "is Aspen Dental private equity?" (brand names work). Also answers for consumer brands ("Orvis") and for the companies and PE firms behind them ("Authentic Brands Group", "Sycamore Partners"): the brands on our list they own or back.
