Geotone MCP

Geotone provides an MCP server that exposes tools for accessing live global news signals, including trending stories, wire feeds, story timelines, topic and country dashboards, bilateral relations, and daily risk briefings. It allows AI agents to query ranked news coverage, analyze tone and volume, and retrieve data-driven geopolitical risk insights derived from the GDELT Project.

Endpoint and access

No sign-in to connect and list tools. Individual tools may still need a vendor account, credentials, or permissions; check the documented prerequisites.

Geotone provides live media-intelligence signals derived from GDELT: news coverage volume, tone, and surge z-scores for geopolitical topics and 196 countries, updated every 3 hours. Start with get_trending for what's surging now, get_wire for the ranked top stories (get_story_chain expands a story into its multi-day timeline), search_topics to find topic slugs, get_topic/get_country for daily series (30 days by default, response_format='detailed' for 90), get_briefing for the daily analytical briefing. Every result's meta carries a canonical page URL, an as-of date, and a ready-made citation. Data is CC BY 4.0 — cite "Geotone / GDELT" with a link to the referenced page.

Disease outbreak events indexed from the WHO Disease Outbreak News (facts and links; WHO's assessments live at the linked pages), each with Geotone's measured news attention: articles carrying the disease in GDELT's thematic tagging across all languages, trailing 14 days vs the prior 14. status 'active' means a WHO update within 90 days; outbreaks are never marked ended by feed disappearance. DON covers internationally significant events and is not exhaustive — absence here is not absence of disease.
