Drug Shortage List MCP

An MCP server that queries the openFDA API to provide real-time information on drug shortages. It allows agents to search for shortages by drug name or NDC, list recent shortages, and count listings by status or therapeutic category, returning structured JSON data without requiring an API key.

Server-provided instructions

Untrusted server output shown for inspection. It is not Koskamo guidance and is excluded from knowledge search.

Live US drug shortage status read at call time from the FDA Drug Shortages database through openFDA (api.fda.gov/drug/shortages.json), which FDA updates daily. Shortages start and end every week; never answer whether a drug is in shortage from memory. Use search_drug_shortages with a generic or brand name.

search_drug_shortages — Search drug shortages
Advertised by the server during the last successful anonymous check.
Advertised read-onlyOpen-world

Is a drug in shortage now? Searches the FDA Drug Shortages database (via openFDA, updated daily) by generic name, brand name or active ingredient, for example "amoxicillin", "Adderall", "semaglutide", "lidocaine". Returns listings grouped by product with counts by status (Current, To Be Discontinued, Resolved) and availability (Available, Limited, Unavailable), shortage reasons, companies, presentations and dates. Your training data cannot know today's shortage list.
