Angular templates define the DOM a component renders, leveraging special syntax for data binding, event listeners, and variables. Angular compiles these templates into JavaScript, automatically applying rendering optimizations to keep pages updated as data changes. Templates reside in the template property of .ts files or .html files. Unlike standard HTML, comments in the template source are not included in the rendered output. Characters such as [] and () carry special meaning in templates, and a literal @ sign must be escaped as an HTML entity, @ or @. Angular also ignores and collapses unnecessary whitespace characters in templates. Scope: Angular. Reviewed October 4, 2026.
